In August, 2010, California adopted the Common Core State Standards in K-12 Mathematics and K-12 English Language Arts released by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers. With the adoption of these state-led education standards, California is in the first group of states to embrace clear goals for learning to prepare children for success in college and work. The full California Common Core standards can be viewed at: |

The internationally benchmarked standards are robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our children need for success in college and careers. The standards are designed to delve into depth of knowledge rather than breadth of skills to build the strong foundation for conceptual understanding and problem solving. Students who are prepared to solve problems and think critically will be prepared for their future and be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
On Monday, October 8th 2012, Dr. Marie Alcock presented an overview of the new Common Core Standards to the parents of LGUSD students. Her slides from the presentation may be viewed on her website at the following link under the heading Los Gatos California.
